On Tuesday, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, highlighted the crucial role of Libyan tribes in achieving national reconciliation and lasting stability.
This came during his meeting with a delegation of Sheikhs, dignitaries, and intellectuals from Zintan, as reported by the LNA’s media office.
The Zintan leaders expressed their pride and appreciation for Haftar’s efforts toward the unity and stability of Libya.
They acknowledged the pivotal role of the Libyan National Army Forces in maintaining security across the country. They also praised the recent surge in urban development and reconstruction projects, attributing these achievements to Haftar’s directives on advancing developmental initiatives and essential services.
The leaders voiced their hope that reconstruction projects would soon commence in Zintan and the western mountain regions, as noted in a Facebook post by the LNA’s media office.
In a separate meeting, Field Marshal Haftar conferred with the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, the Deputy Minister of Interior, the Director of the Benghazi Security Directorate, the Director of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation, and the Head of the Internal Security Agency.
Haftar emphasized the need for intensified efforts by all security agencies to uncover the circumstances surrounding the kidnapping of Member of Parliament MP Ibrahim Al-Drissi, ensure his safe return, and swiftly prosecute those responsible. This directive followed his meeting with a delegation from the Al-Drissi tribe, according to another Facebook post by the LNA’s media office.
Libya has been in turmoil since the 2011 uprising that led to the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi. The resulting power vacuum and ongoing conflict have divided the nation, with various factions competing for control.
Security remains a major concern, highlighted by incidents such as the recent kidnapping of MP Ibrahim Al-Drissi. Haftar’s prompt response and the efforts of the LNA’s security apparatus reflect the urgent need to tackle such issues to maintain public confidence and ensure safety.
By fostering collaboration with tribal leaders and prioritizing development and security, Haftar seeks to stabilize Libya and pave the way for a unified and peaceful nation. The involvement of influential tribes like the Zintan is seen as a step toward achieving broader national reconciliation and long-term stability.
