Interim Government Backs Demonstrations Against Turkish Intervention

The Libyan Interim Government has followed with interest the mass demonstrations staged on Sunday in Benghazi.

The demonstration was held to publicly denounce Turkey’s intervention in Libya’s crisis.

In a statement, the government voiced its appreciation for the demonstration and announced that it will stand behind the protesters in their legitimate demands.

It also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards ending Turkey’s interference in Libya.

The government announced its support to the demands of the people, who have consistently stood alongside the country’s legitimate authorities, namely the House of Representatives (HoR), the Interim Government, and the Libyan National Army (LNA).

The government reiterated its determination to fulfill the demands of the people and pave the way for the establishment of a state of law, and building of institutions, to maintain the country’s sovereignty.

The protests came in conjunction with new military operations launched by the LNA against Al-Watiya airbase.

The LNA claims it has destroyed a recently installed Turkish air defense system belonging to the Tripoli based Government of National Accord (GNA).

The Libyan demonstrators held pictures of LNA Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and banners in support of the LNA.

They condemned foreign intervention in Libya, especially by Turkey.
