On Monday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation to address regional challenges, especially in Libya. This is in light of Turkey’s escalating intervention in the country.

These remarks came during the minister’s speech at the 9th Session of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum. He added that Egypt was counting on Chinese support to the Arab League (AL) regarding the Libyan crisis and the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Shoukry stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation amid the current COVID-19 crisis, according to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Minister discussed political and security issues in the Middle East, including foreign interventions of regional powers aiming to extend their influence on a number of Arab countries, the statement added.

On 22 June, an emergency Arab League meeting requested by Egypt on the situation in Libya condemned all types of foreign intervention in the country, warning against the longevity of the ongoing conflict.
