The Libyan Minister of Education, Jumaa Khalifa Al-Jadid, inaugurated a new school in the Eastern Coastal district of Derna. This step came as a significant development aimed at enhancing educational facilities.

According to the Libyan government’s media office, this new educational institution features 12 classrooms and a fully equipped laboratory, with complete sanitary facilities set to be furnished in the upcoming days.

Education Supervisor of Derna, Abdul Hamid Hammad, highlighted that this school is the first in a series of new schools planned to open soon in various neighborhoods of Derna, including Al-Salam, Karsa, and Martuba districts. This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand educational opportunities and infrastructure across the city.

Las month, Kamal Abubakr Al-Siwi, Head of the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons in Libya, announced that 5,000 bodies and remains have been discovered and verified in Derna to date.

In his press statements, Al-Siwi mentioned that approximately 4,000 reports of missing persons have been recorded.

He noted that some citizens have not yet reported their missing due to displacement to other areas.

He clarified that the issue of the hurricane victims is ongoing and work continues, as remains are still being found in Derna.

The process of identification, sampling, and analysis is ongoing. Al-Siwi indicated that all initially located and buried bodies have been documented and reburied.

He noted that the remaining task involves handling the remains that are occasionally found during excavation or cleaning operations.

the Director-General of the Libyan Reconstruction and Development Fund and CEO of the Derna Reconstruction Fund, Belgassim Haftar, hosted French Ambassador Mostafa Mihraje and a delegation of French business representatives in Derna. The visit aimed to discuss the extensive reconstruction efforts underway in the city and explore potential collaboration.

The French delegation, comprising diplomats and representatives from leading French companies, received comprehensive briefings on various reconstruction projects. These projects include hospital management, waste recycling, dam construction, sewage systems, advanced digital technology, flood protection, and coastal fortification. These areas are critical for Libya’s ongoing rebuilding and development.
