Youssef Al-Agouri, a member of the Libyan House of Representatives and Chairman of its Foreign Affairs Committee, has called for the international community to respect Libya’s Constitutional Declaration and recognize the government that legitimately represents the will of the people.

In statements reported by “Akhbar Libya 24,” Al-Agouri emphasized that the House of Representatives is the only legitimate body representing the Libyan people, and it alone has the authority to appoint the legitimate government responsible for diplomatic relations and enhancing cooperation with neighboring and friendly countries.

Al-Agouri expressed his bewilderment over some countries’ refusal to recognize Libya’s legitimate government, noting that these nations appear to be acting in their own self-interest, thereby undermining Libya’s unity and stability. He reiterated that Libya will not tolerate interference in its internal affairs, and that both the parliament and the legitimate government are committed to preserving the nation’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Al-Agouri also praised Egypt for its recognition and support of the legitimate Libyan government, urging other neighboring countries to follow Egypt’s example. He welcomed the recent visit of the Libyan Prime Minister, Osama Hammad, to Egypt, viewing it as a significant step in strengthening ties with neighboring and friendly nations. Al-Agouri noted that Egypt’s recognition of the Libyan government reflects true support for Libya’s unity and stability under one legitimate government, and he expressed hope that other neighboring countries would adopt a similar stance.

In a related context, Al-Agouri voiced his dissatisfaction with the ongoing support for the outgoing Dbaiba government, stressing that this administration lacks legitimacy and that any external support for it only deepens the divisions within Libya. He underscored that the only path to ensuring Libya’s stability is through unified international efforts to support the legitimate government endorsed by the parliament, which truly represents the will of the Libyan people.
