The Libyan Anti-Drug and Psychotropic Substances Unit announced today the arrest of a police officer affiliated with the Ministry of Interior for drug trafficking in the city of Ajdabiya. The arrest followed a carefully planned sting operation based on detailed intelligence gathered by the unit.

The officer, who serves in the Central Support Agency in Ajdabiya, was caught in possession of a large quantity of drugs. Authorities seized approximately 2 kilograms of hashish, along with additional smaller pieces weighing around 100 grams. According to the Anti-Drug Unit, this significant bust reflects the growing challenge of drug trafficking in the region, even among individuals entrusted with law enforcement responsibilities.

In a separate operation in Ajdabiya, the unit also apprehended a local drug dealer. The suspect was found with 700 grams of hashish, further underscoring the ongoing battle against narcotics in the area. Officials involved in the case said that the arrest of these suspects is part of a broader effort to dismantle criminal networks operating in eastern Libya.

Both suspects are currently being held for questioning as investigations continue. Authorities are probing the extent of their involvement in the drug trade and any possible connections to larger trafficking rings. The Libyan Anti-Drug Unit emphasized the importance of these operations in protecting communities from the devastating impact of illegal drugs.

This case highlights the complexities faced by law enforcement in Libya, where criminal activities sometimes involve those within the security apparatus. The unit has vowed to continue its efforts to ensure accountability and curb the spread of narcotics across the country.
