US Special Envoy for Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, met with Republic of Congo Foreign Minister Jean-Claude Gakosso during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.

Norland expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to discuss joint efforts aimed at revitalising the political process in Libya.

He welcomed the African Union’s initiative to hold a reconciliation conference, which aims to bring former adversaries together to pave the way for Libya’s reunification.

Norland acknowledged the African Union’s key role in fostering dialogue and reconciliation, emphasising the United States’ support for this significant event.

He added that the efforts of Libyan partners, in collaboration with the AU, are vital for the success of the conference and the future stability of Libya.

Norland stressed the importance of such initiatives in achieving long-term peace in the country, noting that the reconciliation conference is a crucial step towards addressing Libya’s political divisions.

He reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Libya’s sovereignty and working alongside international and regional partners to foster dialogue among Libyan stakeholders.
