On Monday, Japanese Ambassador to Libya, Shimura Izuru, reaffirmed Japan’s readiness to contribute to Libya’s reconstruction and infrastructure projects.
In a meeting with Ageela Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representative, the ambassador stated that Japanese companies are prepared to engage in rebuilding efforts and support the development of key sectors.
Ambassador Shimura also highlighted Japan’s plans to boost investment in Libya’s industrial and commercial sectors. Additionally, he announced new scholarships for Libyan students to study in Japanese universities, aiming to strengthen educational ties and equip Libya’s youth with skills to contribute to the country’s recovery.
The ambassador held a separate meeting with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army, to discuss similar priorities, including political developments and the importance of stability. Shimura expressed appreciation for Haftar’s efforts to promote security, emphasizing its critical role in paving the way for reconstruction and economic growth in Libya.
These meetings follow the ambassador’s earlier discussions with Abdulhamid Dbeibah, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, in November. Their talks explored avenues for enhancing Libya-Japan cooperation in economic development and opening new opportunities for reconstruction and trade.
Japan’s readiness to contribute comes as Libya grapples with years of conflict and political divisions that have left its infrastructure severely damaged. Japan’s extensive experience in rebuilding and its global reputation for technological excellence make it a valuable partner for Libya’s recovery. The focus on scholarships also reflects Japan’s commitment to fostering sustainable development through education and capacity building.
As Libya works to rebuild, Japan’s emphasis on infrastructure, education, and industrial growth could play a transformative role in shaping a more stable and prosperous future.
