The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, has issued a directive to Khaled Shakshak, instructing him to continue heading the Audit Bureau in the western region until an agreement is reached on the appointment of sovereign positions.

In his letter, Saleh requested Shakshak to undertake all organizational and legal measures necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the Audit Bureau until a final judicial ruling is issued.

The directive from Saleh aims to settle the recent debate over the leadership of the Audit Bureau, sparked by a letter from the head of the Tripoli Branch of the Department of Legal Affairs.

This letter, addressed to several economic institutions, including the Central Bank of Libya and the National Oil Corporation, stated that the South Tripoli Primary Court had ordered Shakshak’s suspension, citing the expiration of his mandate based on HoR Resolution No. 30 of 2014.

However, on Wednesday, the head of the Tripoli Branch of the Department of Legal Affairs issued another letter to Shakshak’s office, notifying him of the acceptance of his appeal against the suspension order.

The Civil Division of the Tripoli Court of Appeal has set a hearing for February 23, 2025, to review the case. Another hearing is scheduled for January 8, 2025, in the South Tripoli Primary Court’s Labor Division to address related proceedings.

This move underscores the ongoing political and legal challenges surrounding Libya’s sovereign institutions, highlighting the need for comprehensive resolution mechanisms.
