The elders and dignitaries of Tawergha have announced their support for the peaceful popular protests calling for the ousting of the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU) led by Abdel-Hamid Dbaiba.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the elders expressed strong condemnation of the meeting between Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush and the Israeli Foreign Minister. The meeting, reportedly sanctioned by Dbaiba, has ignited widespread backlash.
“We categorically reject and strongly denounce the meeting between Al-Mangoush and the Israeli Foreign Minister, orchestrated under Dbaiba’s directives. We demand his removal and call for accountability for those responsible for these attempts at normalization, which constitute a national betrayal,” the statement read.
The elders emphasized that efforts to establish normalization channels with Israel do not represent the will of the Libyan people. “These attempts are a blatant assault on the national and religious principles upon which Libyans were raised, and for which the free people of Libya have sacrificed throughout history.”
The statement also held the government fully accountable for what it described as a “political farce,” urging it to cease jeopardizing the nation’s future. It called on the GNU to focus on addressing the Libyan people’s needs instead of pursuing normalization projects that serve “only the enemies of the nation.”
“We stand united with the free people of Libya in rejecting the government and its disgraceful policies. We support the peaceful popular protests demanding the government’s removal and the prosecution of those involved in normalization and acts of national betrayal,” the statement added.
The elders concluded by reaffirming their unwavering stance: “Libya is not for sale. Palestine remains the central cause of the Arab and Islamic nations. We will not allow any normalization agreements with Israel to pass at the expense of Libyans’ dignity and rights.”
