Libya’s State Minister for African Affairs, Issa Abdulmajid, underscored the vital role of the African Union (AU) in fostering national reconciliation and promoting peace and stability in the country.

Abdulmajid chaired a high-level meeting in Benghazi, attended by an AU delegation led by Congo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francophonie, and Congolese Abroad, Jean-Claude Gakosso.

The meeting focused on the AU-sponsored national reconciliation initiative for Libya. Discussions revolved around revitalising this critical project to support Libya’s efforts towards achieving lasting peace and unity under the AU’s guidance.

Collaboration between Libya and the Republic of Congo was a key topic, particularly in economic and security sectors. Both sides emphasised enhancing mutual interests and advancing development and stability across Africa.

Abdulmajid highlighted the importance of AU support in helping Libya overcome its political divisions and stressed the need for African solidarity to strengthen the nation’s reconstruction efforts.

Jean-Claude Gakosso praised Libya’s engagement with the AU and reiterated Congo’s commitment to supporting Libyan stability through bilateral cooperation and AU-led initiatives.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to integrate African partnerships into Libya’s recovery, with the ultimate goal of creating a unified and prosperous nation.
