On Wednesday, the US Chargé d’Affaires, Joshua Harris, visited Benghazi, where he held consultations with a number of Libyan officials, with a view to achieving a demilitarized solution for Sirte and Al-Jufra, as well as enabling the National Oil Corporation (NOC) to resume its vital work nationwide.

Harris’s visit to Libya also aims to argue for a lasting ceasefire and roadmap for the withdrawal of all foreign interventionists and mercenaries.

During his meetings with officials from the Libyan Parliament and the Libyan National Army (LNA), Harris reiterated that, as the oil blockade is lifted, the Embassy will “remain fully engaged to promote the transparent management of oil and gas revenues. This is so that Libyans can have confidence these vital resources are used wisely for the benefit of the people”.

This meeting follows the Embassy’s visit to Zuwara on the 22nd of June, and Misrata on the 27th of July, underscoring the US commitment to engage a wide range of Libyan leaders, across the country, who are prepared to support Libyan sovereignty, reject foreign interference, and come together in peaceful dialogue.
