Libyan Health Minister of the Parliament-designate government, Dr. Othman Abdel Jalil inaugurated a new medical centre in Kufra on Wednesday to serve displaced people in the region.
The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Kufra, the head of the city’s council of elders, directors of specialised medical centres, hospital officials, healthcare workers, and local dignitaries.
The new facility is part of the Ministry of Health’s ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare services in remote areas and support displaced populations.
The centre has a capacity of 40 beds and includes several specialised departments, such as internal medicine for men and women, paediatrics, emergency care, intensive care, radiology, and a fully equipped laboratory.
During the inauguration, Minister Abdel Jalil stressed the importance of the medical centre in improving healthcare services for displaced families in Kufra. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare facilities, ensuring their readiness, and providing essential resources to maintain high-quality services.
Local residents and displaced individuals expressed their appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the urgent need for better healthcare infrastructure in Kufra. They praised the ministry’s efforts in establishing a facility that meets their medical needs and enhances healthcare access in the region.
The opening of this centre marks a significant step in addressing the healthcare challenges faced by displaced people in southern Libya. It also aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve medical services in underserved communities and ensure equitable healthcare access across the country.
