Egypt’s Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, has conducted an inspection tour of security measures along the western border with Libya, including a visit to the Salloum border crossing.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Armed Forces’ spokesperson, Khalifa reviewed the security procedures in place at Salloum Land Port. He received a detailed briefing on the 24-hour operational security measures designed to maintain strict border control and prevent illegal activities.

As part of his visit, Khalifa assessed the security situation along Egypt’s western strategic direction. His tour aimed to ensure effective monitoring of border crossings and security checkpoints to prevent infiltration, smuggling, and other threats to national security.

During the inspection, he visited several border posts to evaluate the living and operational conditions of the military personnel stationed along the international border. He engaged in discussions with troops, emphasising the importance of their role in safeguarding Egypt’s western frontier. He also examined strategies to counter unauthorised border crossings and illicit trafficking, reinforcing the military’s commitment to maintaining national security.

In addition to his ground inspection, Khalifa conducted an aerial survey of key security points within the operational zone of the Western Military Region. His visit reflects Egypt’s ongoing efforts to enhance border security, particularly amid regional challenges and concerns over instability in neighbouring Libya.

Egypt continues to strengthen its border defences to curb smuggling networks, human trafficking, and potential security threats originating from Libya. The Western Military Region remains a focal point for Egyptian security forces, ensuring stability and control along the border.
