The Parliament-designated Libyan Government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, successfully coordinated the repatriation of six Tunisian engineers who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in eastern Libya.
The victims’ bodies were flown to Tunisia on Sunday evening aboard a private aircraft, provided by the Libyan government as a mark of respect and solidarity.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed that all procedures were finalized in coordination with the Tunisian Consulate in Benghazi. The handover occurred in the presence of the Tunisian Consul General, senior Libyan officials, and members of the ministry’s protocol office.
The accident, which also claimed the lives of two Libyan citizens, occurred earlier this week. One additional Tunisian national survived the crash and is currently receiving comprehensive medical care in a Libyan hospital. The ministry emphasized that the government closely monitors his condition and ensures he receives full medical attention.
In its statement, the Libyan government extended official condolences to the people and government of Tunisia, expressing sorrow for the tragic loss and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured survivor.
The repatriation reflects Libya’s deep commitment to humanitarian coordination with neighboring countries, especially Tunisia, with whom it shares historical, cultural, and economic ties. Relations between the two countries remain strong, particularly in the areas of trade, labor exchange, and cross-border mobility.
Thousands of Tunisians work or travel in eastern Libya, especially in engineering, construction, and oil-related fields.
Libya’s gesture also comes at a time when both nations are working to enhance bilateral cooperation, including the management of consular services and joint responses to emergencies involving nationals abroad.
