Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency has transferred 41 irregular migrants from Sirte to Greater Benghazi as part of preparations to return them to their countries of origin.

The agency said the group, made up of Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals, was moved from the Sirte shelter centre to the Greater Benghazi shelter centre, where final procedures for their repatriation will be completed in line with Libyan laws and regulations.

According to a statement published on the agency’s official Facebook page, the operation was carried out under the instructions of the agency’s head, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi. It was also followed directly by the Director of Central Region and South-Eastern Branches, Colonel Mohamed Ali Al-Fadhil.

The agency said the transfer formed part of a wider security plan aimed at organising the status of irregular migrants and strengthening oversight of migration-related files across the country.

The statement said the group included 29 Bangladeshi nationals and 12 Pakistani nationals. They were transported from Sirte to the Greater Benghazi shelter centre, where the required arrangements will be completed before their departure.

The agency added that the migrants are expected to be returned to their home countries through Benina International Airport, in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Libyan authorities said the move comes within ongoing efforts to address the status of migrants who have violated residency and entry regulations, while taking the necessary legal measures in accordance with national legislation.

The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency said the operation is one of several security and administrative measures being carried out by its branches in different parts of Libya. It added that these measures are intended to reduce irregular migration and regulate the movement of foreign nationals in line with Libyan law.

The agency also said it would continue implementing shelter and deportation programmes under legal and humanitarian standards, in cooperation with the relevant bodies.

Libya remains a major transit country for migrants seeking to reach Europe across the Mediterranean. Authorities have continued to carry out transfers, shelter arrangements, and repatriation procedures through migration centres in several cities, including Sirte and Benghazi.

The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency said it will continue its field operations through its shelter centres and regional branches, as part of broader efforts to organise the migration file, enforce legal procedures, and address security challenges linked to irregular migration.
