Libyan club defeats Tunisia’s Esperance to win continental title and qualify for Club World Championship
Libya’s Al-Sweihli Volleyball Club has made sporting history by winning the African Volleyball Club Championship for the first time, securing a 3-2 victory over Tunisia’s Esperance in a thrilling final held at the Sports Hall in Misrata.
With this landmark victory, Al-Sweihli becomes the first Libyan club to win the African title, earning a coveted spot in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship.
Al-Sweihli booked their place in the final after overcoming Rwanda’s APR in the semi-finals, while Esperance had knocked out Egypt’s Al Ahly, one of the tournament favourites.
The title match was followed by an awards ceremony attended by high-profile figures, including Libya’s Minister of Sports Abdulshafi Al-Juweyfi, Deputy Minister Jamal Abu Nawara, President of the Libyan Olympic Committee Dr Jamal Al-Zarrouq, President of the African Volleyball Confederation Bouchra Hajij of Morocco, and senior members of the Libyan Volleyball Federation.
The achievement is seen as a major milestone for Libyan sports, reflecting the growing talent and competitive strength of Libyan clubs on the continental stage.
