Taher Al-Baour, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Libya’s Government of National Unity, met on Wednesday with Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in Brussels.
According to Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed opportunities to deepen political dialogue, enhance cooperation, and activate the outcomes of the sixth African Union–European Union summit.
Their discussions focused on security, sustainable development, and the importance of balanced partnerships rooted in mutual respect and shared strategic interests.
Al-Baour emphasized that Libya, as both an African and Mediterranean country, has a unique role to play in promoting regional cooperation across continents. He underscored Libya’s readiness to work constructively with the EU and African Union partners on policies that enhance regional stability and long-term development.
The Libyan side also briefed the EU on efforts by the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity to improve security and restore stability, particularly in Tripoli. Al-Baour outlined current measures underway to support state institutions and reinforce the rule of law as part of broader stabilization efforts.
The meeting highlighted Libya’s strategic importance in addressing shared issues such as migration, security coordination, and economic integration. Both sides acknowledged the value of dialogue that reflects equality, partnership, and respect for sovereignty.
As Libya continues its path toward recovery and reintegration into international frameworks, it is positioning itself as a committed partner in cross-regional cooperation, especially between Africa and Europe. The discussions in Brussels reflect a growing diplomatic effort to anchor Libya within broader continental and intercontinental initiatives.
