Libyan Army Launches Awareness Campaign Against Illegal Militias

On Monday, the Libyan National Army (LNA) held an awareness lecture at the 604th Infantry Battalion of the Central Military Zone, focusing on the threats posed by militias and armed groups operating outside state authority.

The event was organized by the army’s Moral Guidance Division under the direction of Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces.

The lecture, titled “Militias and Armed Groups and Their Threat to the State,” addressed the growing security risks associated with non-state armed actors. It emphasized the role of these groups in undermining national sovereignty, disrupting state institutions, and destabilizing public order.

Officials warned that militias—often driven by ideology, regional loyalties, or personal interests—pose a direct challenge to the legitimacy and authority of the national military and government. The lecture stressed the importance of maintaining unity, discipline, and loyalty within the armed forces as a safeguard against internal and external threats.

The event is part of a broader initiative by the LNA’s Moral Guidance Division to educate military personnel on issues related to national security, defense ethics, and the responsibilities of serving within a lawful national force. It also aims to reinforce awareness of the current challenges facing Libya, including the ongoing presence and influence of armed groups outside state control.

Organizers highlighted the importance of instilling a national security mindset among soldiers to prepare them not only for combat operations, but also for their role in protecting Libya’s sovereignty, institutions, and civilian population.

As Libya continues to face deep political divisions and widespread militia activity, the LNA views internal education and awareness-building as essential tools for strengthening institutional cohesion and ensuring the army remains a unified force under legal command.

The Moral Guidance Division plans to expand these lectures across other military units as part of a long-term strategy to enhance professionalism and reinforce the army’s central role in national stability.
