Libyan Prime Minister of the Parliament-designate government,, Osama Hammad has marked the second anniversary of Storm Daniel with an emotional message recalling the human tragedy, national unity, and resilience that followed one of the darkest moments in Libya’s modern history.

In a post shared on X, Hammad described the deadly storm that swept through Libyan cities in 2023 as “a defining moment etched in the nation’s memory,” noting that in just a few hours, entire communities were transformed and thousands of lives were lost.

“Two years ago today, our homeland endured a moment that will never be forgotten,” Hammad wrote. “Storm Daniel devastated our towns and villages, taking from us family members, friends, and neighbors who became martyrs, leaving wounds in our hearts that cannot heal.”

He emphasized that the catastrophe was not merely a passing storm, but a human tragedy that reshaped Libya’s collective history. Yet, Hammad underscored, the disaster also revealed the strength of national solidarity. “Our people stood together as one,” he said, praising Libyans from all regions for uniting to confront the destruction. “Our strength lies in our unity and solidarity, and this people has shown it can always overcome hardship.”

The Prime Minister honored the victims’ memory, pledging continued commitment to their legacy. “Their remembrance is not only a story of grief but a responsibility we carry, a message that obliges us to continue on the path of rebuilding,” he added.

Looking to the future, Hammad highlighted progress made in reconstruction, particularly in Derna and other cities hardest hit by the storm. He praised the “men of reconstruction and development” for restoring life to devastated streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces.

Infrastructure projects such as new bridges, roads, schools, hospitals, and public services have been launched, alongside programs to support affected families and provide psychological recovery.

“With God’s grace, Libya is witnessing revival,” Hammad declared. “Our cities are returning to life, rebuilt with determination and guided by a vision for a stronger future, ready to withstand any crisis.”
