Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of the Fund for Development and Reconstruction of Libya, received the head of the Italian Intelligence Agency, who led a high-level delegation accompanied by the President of GKSD S.R.L. The meeting underscored efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation between Libya and Italy in key sectors.
Also present were Dr Jibril Al-Badri, President of the National Development Agency, and senior directors of major hospitals in Benghazi, including Al-Hawari General Hospital, Al-Jalaa Hospital, Benghazi Medical Centre, Benghazi Cancer Centre, the Children’s Hospital, and the Eye Hospital. Representatives from the Medical Supply Authority and the Fund’s Projects Department also took part.
Talks focused on strategic cooperation in health services, medical training, infrastructure development, renewable energy, and waste management projects aimed at energy conversion. The discussions highlighted opportunities to create sustainable partnerships that would support long-term development goals in Libya.
The Italian delegation had earlier conducted field visits and technical meetings in Benghazi and Marj. These visits included inspections of hospitals and health projects to assess progress and identify priority needs.
On the sidelines of the meeting, memorandums of understanding were signed in the fields of healthcare, infrastructure, clean energy, and environmental management. Officials stressed that these agreements mark a new beginning in strategic cooperation between the two nations and will open wide avenues for sustainable development partnerships.
The event reflects a broader trend of international engagement in Libya’s reconstruction efforts, with Italy emerging as a key partner in projects designed to restore public services, upgrade infrastructure, and drive forward the country’s stability agenda.
