Greece and Egypt held high-level political consultations in Athens on Tuesday to discuss developments in Libya and the issue of migration, according to the Greek newspaper Ekathimerini.
The talks were chaired by Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou and Ambassador Tarek Dahroug, Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Libyan Affairs. Discussions focused on ways to strengthen stability in Libya and support the United Nations roadmap for the gradual reunification of Libyan state institutions.
According to Ekathimerini, Greece expressed its readiness to assist in developing Libya’s institutions and contributing to the country’s long-term stability.
The two sides also addressed the issue of migration management and the importance of enhanced cooperation between Greece and Egypt in tackling migration flows across the Mediterranean. Both parties stressed the need for continuous coordination to address the shared challenges in this field.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides agreed to hold the Greece-Egypt political dialogue on a regular basis, twice a year, alternating between Athens and Cairo.
