Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority has announced the official reopening of Zintan Airport following the completion of development and maintenance works, marking a new phase in efforts to revitalise domestic air transport across the country.

According to a statement from the authority, the airport received its first flight operated by Fly OYA Airlines, with the aircraft welcomed by the Assistant Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the airport director, and several mayors from the Nafusa Mountain region. The inaugural flight carried a delegation from Fly OYA, symbolising the official resumption of operations and the expansion of domestic flight routes.

The authority said this launch represents the “practical start” of the airport’s operations and highlights the commitment to strengthening air connectivity between Libya’s regions. It added that ongoing efforts are underway to ensure all airports meet operational and technical requirements, guaranteeing safety, efficiency, and compliance with international standards.

Last week, Fly OYA announced the launch of its first direct domestic service from Zintan to Benina Airport in Benghazi, following strong demand from residents of the western region. The company said the route aims to provide passengers with a safe, convenient, and comfortable travel experience while contributing to the development of Libya’s air transport sector.

The reactivation of Zintan Airport comes amid renewed national focus on rebuilding aviation infrastructure after years of disruption caused by conflict and security challenges. Local communities have welcomed the move, describing it as an important step towards improving connectivity, boosting trade and tourism, and fostering national unity.

With the successful launch of this new route, Fly OYA continues to play an essential role in reconnecting Libya’s cities and supporting the broader recovery of the country’s aviation industry.
