The Prime Minister of the eastern-based Interim Government, Abdullah Al-Thinni, discussed with the chairman of the medical supply device, Dr. Ahmed Portima, the functioning of the medical device.

Al-Thinni was briefed on the strategic stock of medicines, equipment, and medical supplies for the health sector.

During the meeting, Al-Thinni discussed with Portima the most important needs that must be met in the coming period, to fill the shortage in all medical institutions and centres.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the World Health Organisation office in Libya to ensure the effective and continuous provision of services to citizens.

On Saturday 29 August, the National Centre for Disease Control of Libya reported 329 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 12,958.

To curb the spread of the pandemic, Libya has taken a series of precautionary measures since the first case was reported in March, including closing the country’s borders, shutting down schools and mosques, banning public gatherings and imposing a curfew.
