The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya has concluded a two-day training initiative aimed at equipping young Libyans with new tools to innovate within the justice sector and strengthen the rule of law. The event, held in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, brought together more than 40 young men and women from across the country under the banner: “Diwan Al-Shabab: Youth Innovation Lab for Justice, Rule of Law, and Access to Justice.”
The programme introduced participants to interactive simulations, youth-led discussions, and hands-on exercises designed to deepen their understanding of legal rights, legal aid mechanisms, and the role of justice institutions. Throughout the workshop, participants developed community-driven ideas for initiatives that enhance accountability, inclusion, and civic engagement at the local level.
UNDP stated that Diwan Al-Shabab aims to build a new network of young leaders capable of driving change within their communities. The agency described the initiative as an important contribution toward empowering youth to engage with public institutions and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 16, which focuses on peace, justice, and strong institutions.
The project is jointly funded by the Italian government and the Libyan Ministry of Youth, and is based on a youth-led concept developed by graduates of the recently completed Student Ambassadors Programme.
