Libya’s Ministry of Interior has repatriated a group of Syrian nationals as part of the government’s ongoing national programme for the removal of irregular migrants. The operation was carried out through Mitiga International Airport after the completion of all required legal and administrative procedures.

The ministry confirmed that the repatriation forms a core component of its plan to address irregular migration in a structured and lawful manner. Officials emphasised that the state remains committed to managing migration pressures while upholding humanitarian standards and international cooperation mechanisms.

The flight was implemented in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). According to the ministry, the repatriation programme continues to run on a daily and scheduled basis, with the aim of reducing overcrowding inside detention facilities and supporting host communities already burdened by escalating migration flows.

In recent months, Libya has intensified its return operations involving migrants from Syria, Sudan, Niger, Chad and Bangladesh. Despite these efforts, the country remains a major departure point for irregular crossings towards Europe.
