Egypt has announced the return of more than 2,600 of its citizens from Libya since the beginning of 2025, amid sustained efforts to protect Egyptian nationals and facilitate their safe and voluntary return.

The announcement was made by Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which confirmed that the repatriations were carried out through close coordination with Libyan authorities and Egyptian diplomatic missions.

According to the ministry, 1,132 Egyptian citizens were returned from Tripoli and the western region of Libya, while approximately 1,500 were repatriated from the eastern region.

These operations form part of a broader framework aimed at addressing the conditions of Egyptians residing or detained in Libya and ensuring their safety through orderly and lawful procedures.

The ministry also reported that during November alone, 131 Egyptian citizens were released from a Libyan detention center and returned home. This operation was completed through direct coordination between the Egyptian embassy and authorities in Tripoli, allowing for the resolution of legal issues and the release of detainees before their repatriation.

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry stressed that it continues to closely monitor the conditions of the Egyptian community in Libya, maintaining regular communication with Libyan institutions to identify citizens facing difficulties and provide necessary consular assistance.

The ministry confirmed that voluntary return programs remain ongoing, with priority given to vulnerable cases and individuals seeking to return home.
