Senior officials from Libya’s National Development Authority have carried out a field visit to Jufra International Airport to assess ongoing expansion and modernisation works, as part of broader efforts by the Libyan National Army (LNA) leadership to strengthen stability and accelerate development and reconstruction across the country.

The visit was led by the Director General of the National Development Authority, accompanied by the Mayor of Jufra Municipality and a team of project engineers. The delegation reviewed progress on infrastructure upgrades currently under way at the airport, which is considered a vital transport hub linking Libya’s central and southern regions.

During the tour, officials were briefed on implementation timelines, technical specifications and completion rates. The Director General praised the pace of work and stressed the strategic importance of Jufra International Airport in supporting domestic air traffic, improving connectivity between regions and facilitating access to development, economic and humanitarian projects.

He said the airport’s expansion would enhance logistical efficiency and play a key role in supporting national recovery efforts, particularly in remote and underserved areas. Strengthening air transport links, he added, remains essential for attracting investment, enabling service delivery and promoting balanced regional development.

Local authorities highlighted that the project reflects closer coordination between national institutions and municipalities, aimed at ensuring that infrastructure investments respond to local needs while aligning with broader national priorities.

According to the National Development Authority, upgrading Jufra International Airport forms part of a wider infrastructure strategy focused on modern transport networks, service improvement and long-term economic sustainability. Officials said such projects contribute directly to improving living standards and reinforcing security by supporting stable, well-connected communities.

The development initiative aligns with the LNA leadership’s vision of building a secure and prosperous Libya through investment in critical infrastructure. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing field monitoring to ensure quality standards are met and projects are delivered on schedule, supporting Libya’s long-term development goals.
