Libyan security authorities have arrested a Sudanese national who had been impersonating a Libyan citizen and was found to be involved in multiple criminal activities, according to an official statement released by the security apparatus.

The suspect was apprehended by the Investigation and Intelligence Office in Slenata, affiliated with the Shahat branch, following intensified surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations. Authorities said the man had been living in Libya for a long period and deliberately assumed a false Libyan identity in order to carry out illegal activities and evade detection.

Security investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in several criminal cases, including fraud, deception, and theft. Officials also confirmed his involvement in drug use and trafficking. During the arrest, officers seized a quantity of narcotic substances that had been prepared for sale, indicating the suspect’s active participation in the illegal drug trade.

According to the statement, the arrest came after sustained investigative efforts and evidence collection that confirmed both the suspect’s true identity and his criminal record. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the Director of the Shahat branch, Brigadier Ramzi Ramadan, and in accordance with directives issued by the head of the agency, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi.

Authorities said all legal measures were taken immediately following the arrest, and the suspect was referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete investigations and face prosecution in accordance with Libyan law.

Security officials stressed that the case reflects ongoing efforts to combat crime, curb identity fraud, and protect public safety. They reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing individuals involved in criminal activities regardless of nationality and to dismantling networks linked to fraud, drug trafficking, and other serious offenses.
