More than 1.5 million Libyan citizens have registered their desire to perform the Hajj pilgrimage this season, highlighting unprecedented demand for one of Islam’s most important religious rites.
The announcement was made by the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah, which confirmed that the registration phase for the current season has officially concluded.
The authority said it is now completing technical reviews and data verification ahead of the electronic lottery that will determine the final list of pilgrims. The date and locations of the lottery will be announced in the coming weeks through official channels, with organizers stressing transparency and nationwide accessibility.
Ibrahim Al-Saghir, Chairman of the General Authority for Hajj and Umrah, stated that all procedures implemented both within Libya and at the holy sites were designed to serve the interests of pilgrims and ensure a smooth organization. He emphasized the authority’s commitment to reviewing feedback and recommendations submitted by citizens and institutions in order to improve services and facilitate the performance of Hajj rituals.
Al-Saghir noted that pilgrims will observe changes to some procedures this season, explaining that all observations raised by the public are being taken into account as part of efforts to enhance service quality and efficiency.
Deputy Chairman Sabri Al-Buweishi said the eligibility conditions for Hajj are intended to protect citizens’ rights and ensure fair access, particularly for families who have not previously performed the pilgrimage. He emphasized that these conditions are necessary to ensure justice in the selection process and to organize the season in a manner that benefits the widest possible number of citizens.
Al-Buweishi added that the electronic lottery system is not new to Libya, but this will be its first implementation since the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that the lottery will be conducted simultaneously at more than nine locations across the country on a single designated day to ensure fairness, transparency, and accuracy.
Meanwhile, Media Director Hatem Al-Lafi confirmed that the official announcement of the lottery schedule and venues will be made within two to three weeks. He said Libya’s Hajj quota for this year stands at 7,800 pilgrims, adding that all preparations aim to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient pilgrimage season.
