Libya’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy in the government appointed by the House of Representatives, Awad Al-Badri, has announced the establishment of a central emergency operations room to respond to expected adverse weather conditions in the Benghazi Plain and the Green Mountain regions.

The move comes as part of precautionary measures ahead of forecast severe weather on Monday and Tuesday, according to reports from the National Meteorological Center. The decision, published on the ministry’s official Facebook page on Sunday, states that the emergency room will operate around the clock to receive reports of power outages and technical faults through dedicated phone numbers to be announced shortly.

The operations room will be based at the headquarters of the General Electricity Company in Bouhdima, Building 71, and will coordinate immediate and urgent interventions. Field maintenance teams will be dispatched without delay to repair faults and restore electricity supply as quickly as possible.

The decision also stresses full readiness through the preparation of all necessary vehicles, equipment, and technical materials, in addition to the deployment of fully staffed emergency maintenance teams on a 24-hour basis. These teams will remain on standby at the operations room to support all electricity distribution departments and intervene whenever required.

Al-Badri granted the emergency room full authority to seek assistance from any technical personnel or supporting agencies deemed necessary to ensure rapid response and maintain continuity of power supply throughout the period of unstable weather.

The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force until weather conditions stabilize. All relevant entities have been instructed to implement the measures without delay, with any previous decisions conflicting with this order considered null and void.
