Libyan security authorities have intercepted around 280 migrants of Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationality who were preparing to attempt an illegal sea crossing to Europe, according to a statement issued by the relevant directorate.
The directorate said the group was apprehended before departure as part of ongoing operations to curb irregular migration and dismantle smuggling networks operating along the Libyan coast.
Following their arrest, the migrants were handed over to the Illegal Migration Control Department to complete the legal and administrative procedures in line with Libyan regulations.
The operation comes amid continued efforts by Libyan security and border agencies to prevent human trafficking and unauthorized migration routes across the Mediterranean, as thousands of migrants continue to use Libya as a main transit point toward Europe.
