Belgassem Khalifa Haftar, Director General of Libya’s Development and Reconstruction Fund, held a high-level meeting with Awad Al-Badri, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, to address the recent electricity outages that affected several regions following severe weather conditions.

The meeting was attended by members of the Supreme Committee for Resolving the Electricity Crisis and focused on assessing the impact of the recent storm on the national power grid. Participants reviewed field and technical reports detailing damage to transmission lines, substations, and operational facilities, as well as the challenges faced by maintenance teams during the extreme weather.

Officials discussed the repeated power cuts recorded over the past few days, particularly during the storm, which caused technical disruptions and strained the grid in a number of areas. The committee examined the emergency measures taken to restore electricity, evaluated their effectiveness, and identified gaps that require urgent intervention.

The meeting also reviewed progress achieved in recent months, including steps that have contributed to easing pressure on the electricity sector. Emphasis was placed on accelerating repair works, improving coordination between institutions, and enhancing the readiness of technical teams to respond quickly to similar emergencies in the future.

Haftar praised the efforts of the Ministry of Electricity and the technical staff of the General Electricity Company of Libya, commending their dedication and ability to operate under difficult conditions. He reaffirmed the Development and Reconstruction Fund’s commitment to providing technical, logistical, and financial support to strengthen electricity infrastructure and improve grid stability.

For his part, Al-Badri expressed appreciation for the continuous support provided by the Development and Reconstruction Fund, noting that close coordination has helped speed up maintenance operations and improve emergency response.

He stressed the importance of sustained cooperation to address both immediate challenges and long-term structural weaknesses in the electricity sector.
