Libya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted Diori Hamani International Airport in Niger’s capital, Niamey, offering its condolences to the government and people of Niger.

In an official statement, the ministry said Libya stands in full solidarity with Niger and is ready to strengthen joint cooperation in the fight against terrorism. It also renewed its support for efforts aimed at protecting Niger’s security, stability and national sovereignty.

The ministry called for stronger regional and international coordination to confront terrorism, warning that the threat continues to endanger security across the region.

The Libyan statement came after a deadly assault on the airport last Thursday, which left 35 people dead. The victims included 11 soldiers and two civilians, while 22 attackers were also killed during the operation.

The Al-Qaeda-linked Jama’at Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimin claimed responsibility for the attack.

The airport, which also hosts a vital military base, has now been targeted twice in less than five months. In January, Nigerien authorities said they had foiled a similar attack on the same site, killing 20 terrorists.

The latest attack has raised fresh concerns over the growing security threats facing Niger and the wider Sahel region, where armed groups continue to carry out deadly assaults against military and civilian targets.
