Authorities in eastern Libya have reopened the main coastal road linking Sousa and Ras Al-Hilal after completing maintenance and rehabilitation works on the Wadi Mahboul bridge, restoring a key transport route in the Green Mountain region.
The General Directorate of Traffic and Licensing branch in the region announced that the road is now fully operational following the completion of essential repairs aimed at improving safety and ensuring the smooth flow of traffic.
The works were carried out after concerns over the structural condition of the bridge, which had required urgent intervention to prevent risks to motorists.
According to the official statement, the maintenance included reinforcing the bridge’s structure, upgrading its infrastructure, and addressing technical issues that had affected its stability. Authorities said the improvements were necessary to meet safety standards and ensure the long-term reliability of the crossing.
The road connecting Sousa and Ras Al-Hilal is considered one of the most important coastal routes in eastern Libya, linking several communities across the Green Mountain area. It serves daily commuters, commercial transport, and visitors traveling through the region, making it a vital corridor for both economic and social activity.
Authorities stressed that continued investment in infrastructure is essential to support economic activity, facilitate trade, and enhance connectivity between cities. They also reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing maintenance programs to ensure that major roads remain safe and accessible.
