Libyan authorities have deported 176 irregular migrants through Benina International Airport in Benghazi, as part of ongoing efforts to manage migration flows and strengthen security measures.

The operation was carried out by the Department for Combating Illegal Migration under instructions from its head, Major General Salah Mahmoud Al-Khafifi, within a broader security plan aimed at improving stability and addressing migration challenges in an organised manner.

According to Abdulmoneim Zidan Al-Qamati, director of the agency’s security media office, the deportation included 175 Bangladeshi nationals. Of these, 113 migrants were transferred from the agency’s branch in Tripoli, while 62 others were taken from the Benghazi Greater shelter and deportation centre. All were returned to their home country in coordination with the International Organization for Migration.

The operation also included the deportation of one Algerian national, who was transferred from the Benghazi shelter centre and returned to Algeria via Benina International Airport, in line with established deportation procedures.

The move reflects continued cooperation between Libyan authorities and international organisations to facilitate voluntary return programmes and enforce immigration regulations. Libya remains a key transit point for migrants attempting to reach Europe via the Central Mediterranean route, making migration management a central issue for authorities.
