An advisor to Libya’s Presidential Council responsible for the national reconciliation file, Ibrahim Al-Madani, survived an apparent assassination attempt after his vehicle came under heavy gunfire near the Zintan municipal headquarters.

According to local sources, Al-Madani escaped the attack without injuries, while security forces quickly opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. The attack has raised renewed concerns about security conditions, particularly in western Libya, where political sensitivities remain high.

The incident comes at a critical moment, as Al-Madani was reportedly preparing to issue a statement regarding the alleged killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi. Reports suggest that the statement was expected to include claims that the operation was carried out in exchange for financial compensation, a development that has already sparked widespread controversy in political and media circles.

Although no official link has been confirmed between the attempted assassination and the anticipated statement, the timing has fueled speculation about possible motives behind the attack. Observers note that figures involved in reconciliation efforts often operate in a highly sensitive environment, where political tensions and competing interests can escalate rapidly.

The attack underscores the ongoing challenges facing Libya’s reconciliation process and broader political transition. Despite repeated calls for dialogue and unity, incidents of violence continue to threaten efforts aimed at stabilizing the country and bridging divisions between rival factions.

Authorities have pledged to pursue those responsible and ensure accountability, while emphasizing the need to strengthen security measures to protect public officials and institutions. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities gather evidence.
