Officials in the city of Sirte have launched a coordinated effort to establish a comprehensive database of low-income residents, in a step aimed at improving the delivery of social support and targeting assistance more effectively.

The initiative was discussed during an expanded meeting held on Saturday at the headquarters of the Social Solidarity Fund in the central region. The meeting focused on developing clear criteria to identify low-income groups in Sirte, reflecting growing efforts to enhance social welfare systems in Libya.

Multi-Agency Coordination to Define Criteria

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including a member of the Sirte Municipal Council responsible for social affairs, the director of the Social Solidarity Fund’s central region branch, the head of the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Sirte, and the head of the Social Work Department at the Faculty of Education, University of Sirte.

Participants discussed mechanisms to standardize eligibility criteria and ensure that support reaches those most in need, amid ongoing economic challenges affecting vulnerable communities.

Committee to Oversee Data Collection

At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees agreed to form a specialized committee tasked with compiling and managing the database. The committee will coordinate with relevant authorities, as well as donor and supporting organizations, to gather accurate data and establish effective procedures for information collection.

The initiative is expected to play a key role in strengthening social protection programs in Sirte, enabling authorities to better identify beneficiaries and allocate resources more efficiently.
