Italy’s ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, has confirmed that Italian companies are ready to transfer technology and expertise to Libya across key sectors, including construction, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, while maintaining strong cooperation in energy.
In remarks to Libyan News Agency, Alberini said Italian firms are prepared to expand their role beyond traditional investments by sharing technical knowledge and modern practices. He noted that this approach reflects a broader commitment to long-term partnership with Libyan institutions.
The ambassador highlighted the energy sector as a cornerstone of bilateral ties. Italian companies have operated in Libya for decades, sustaining cooperation even during periods of instability. Alberini stressed that this partnership continues to evolve, supported by ongoing collaboration with Libyan counterparts.
He added that relations between Italy and Libya are expanding across multiple fields. These include infrastructure development, agricultural modernisation, and the pharmaceutical industry, all of which are seen as critical to Libya’s economic recovery and diversification.
Alberini also reiterated Italy’s support for Libya’s efforts to restore stability and national unity. He underlined Rome’s backing for reconstruction initiatives, describing them as essential for rebuilding public services and boosting economic resilience.
Concluding his remarks, the ambassador said Libya is currently experiencing a “favourable moment” to advance its historically rooted relationship with Italy. He emphasised that the depth of bilateral ties offers a strong foundation for future cooperation, particularly as Libya moves forward with reconstruction and institutional development.
The comments come as international interest in Libya’s reconstruction grows, with European partners positioning themselves to play a leading role in rebuilding efforts and supporting long-term stability.
