Libya’s government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, convened its first regular Cabinet meeting of 2026 in the city of Derna, bringing together senior officials to review government performance and outline priorities for the coming period.
The meeting included a broad group of ministers overseeing key service and economic sectors, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Ahmad Houma. Discussions focused on evaluating the progress of government work, addressing current challenges, and setting clear plans to improve service delivery across the country.
Cabinet members reviewed several agenda items, approving many decisions through formal voting. Ministers presented detailed reports on their respective sectors, highlighting recent achievements as well as obstacles affecting implementation. Particular emphasis was placed on improving coordination between ministries to increase efficiency and ensure that public services reach citizens more effectively.
The session also examined the status of ongoing infrastructure and service projects in multiple regions. Officials stressed the importance of accelerating implementation timelines and resolving bottlenecks in critical sectors such as transportation, education, and local services. The goal is to improve living conditions and support development efforts nationwide.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Hammad called for stronger cooperation among government institutions and emphasized the need to enhance institutional performance. He noted that the current phase requires coordinated action and practical solutions to overcome challenges and maintain stability in service delivery.
The Cabinet agreed to hold its next meeting in the southeastern city of Kufra, reflecting a broader effort to decentralize government activities and expand engagement with different regions. This approach aims to bring decision-making closer to local communities and ensure that regional needs are addressed more directly.
