The Libyan Organization for Human Rights has launched a national project aimed at strengthening the role of Libyan women in society, with a focus on protection, empowerment, and long-term stability.
Hanan Al-Sharif, Head of the Libyan Organization for Human Rights, said the project, titled “Power for Community Stability: Libyan Women’s Vision 2030,” is based on the principle of “protection first, then empowerment.”
Speaking to Libya Al-Hadath TV, Al-Sharif said the initiative falls within the organization’s work on women’s and children’s rights. She added that it could serve as an important starting point, but requires legislative and executive action to become a practical reality.
Al-Sharif stressed that the organization is not addressing women’s rights in isolation. Instead, it is presenting a national project built around a comprehensive vision for Libyan women, based on the belief that women are a central pillar in stabilizing society and building the state.
She explained that the vision forms part of a wider national framework linked to strategic plans for building a strong and stable state, strengthening institutions, and achieving sustainable development.
Al-Sharif said the organization has spent more than ten years preparing studies, proposals, and practical solutions to improve women’s protection. While some progress has been made, she warned that Libya still needs real and effective protection mechanisms, especially amid rising family and social violence in recent years.
She noted that society cannot advance without empowering women and families. She added that the organization has worked extensively to monitor and study cases of domestic and social violence in cooperation with relevant authorities, with the aim of developing realistic and applicable solutions.
Al-Sharif concluded by saying that the organization has submitted the project to Interior Minister in the Libyan Government-designate, Major General Essam Abu Zeriba, and plans to present it to other relevant bodies in the coming period to strengthen cooperation and unify efforts in support of the national interest.
