The “Soumoud” (Steadfastness) Convoy 2 resumed its journey toward Gaza after a temporary stop near the western Libyan city of Zliten, as activists continue efforts to challenge the blockade imposed on the Palestinian territory and deliver humanitarian aid.
According to participants in the convoy, security forces completed passport inspection procedures for activists gathered near Zliten, located around 140 kilometers west of Tripoli. Following the completion of the checks, the convoy resumed its route after a delay lasting approximately five and a half hours.
The convoy, part of the international “Global Soumoud Fleet” initiative, departed Friday from the city of Zawiya west of Tripoli. Organizers said the convoy includes more than 350 activists representing 30 countries, including Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Turkey, Indonesia, China, the United States, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Participants stated that the convoy is carrying 50 containers intended for humanitarian relief operations in Gaza. The shipment reportedly includes 30 containers of humanitarian aid, 20 mobile housing units, and five ambulances designed to support medical and emergency services.
The land convoy comes alongside a parallel maritime effort launched Thursday from the Turkish Mediterranean city of Marmaris. Organizers said the naval initiative includes 54 vessels participating in a renewed attempt to challenge the Israeli blockade on Gaza.
The initiative follows a previous incident on April 29, when vessels associated with the “Soumoud Fleet” were reportedly targeted in international waters near the Greek island of Crete. Organizers said the flotilla at that time included 345 participants from 39 countries, among them Turkish nationals.
