Libyan medical teams continue to work around the clock to contain health risks and provide emergency care in areas affected by recent floods and torrential rains in southern Libya, as authorities seek to prevent the spread of disease and ensure access to essential healthcare services.
The Libyan Emergency Medicine and Support Centre said its field operations remain ongoing in the municipality of Tehala and the city of Ghat, where medical personnel are providing assistance to residents impacted by severe flooding.
According to the centre, healthcare teams have begun receiving and treating patients requiring urgent medical attention, while continuing efforts to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services under challenging emergency conditions.
The centre stressed that the overall health situation remains under control despite the impact of the floods. Medical teams are continuing to monitor developments closely and address health concerns arising from the crisis.
A key priority has been preventing the spread of waterborne diseases and intestinal infections linked to stagnant floodwaters. Medical personnel are also responding to an increase in scorpion stings and snake bites, which commonly occur following flooding in desert regions.
Officials said healthcare teams have conducted more than 20 medical examinations and interventions as part of the ongoing emergency response. The centre added that all available resources have been mobilised to maintain healthcare services and support affected communities.
The humanitarian response has also involved the Libyan Red Crescent, which has intensified relief efforts since the onset of the flooding. The organisation has been managing displacement and shelter operations for around 250 families affected in Tehala Municipality, helping relocate residents to temporary accommodation and safer housing.
Emergency measures have included the establishment of two field hospitals to provide urgent medical care to flood victims and strengthen healthcare capacity in the affected areas.
Rescue and emergency teams remain deployed across Ghat and neighbouring districts, working alongside local authorities to support precautionary evacuations and protect residents from further risks.
