Sirte Oil Company hosted a senior executive delegation from global oilfield services provider SLB as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation, accelerate field development and support Libya’s plans to increase oil production.
The meeting was held at the company’s headquarters in Marsa Al Brega and was attended by Sirte Oil Chairman Mustafa Hammad, members of the board and senior technical officials. The SLB delegation was led by Frederic Maguet, President of Reservoir Performance, and included senior regional and Libya-based executives.
Discussions focused on expanding technical cooperation, improving operational efficiency and supporting Sirte Oil’s strategy to develop its assets and raise production capacity. The two sides reviewed drilling programmes planned for this year, including exploration and development wells aimed at increasing reserves and enhancing output from existing and future fields.
Officials also examined plans for hydraulic fracturing projects designed to improve well productivity and maximise recovery from hydrocarbon reservoirs. In addition, the meeting reviewed proposals to convert selected wells from gas-lift systems to electric submersible pumps, building on a successful pilot project implemented in 2020.
A key part of the discussions centred on the use of artificial intelligence in drilling operations. Sirte Oil said the technology had delivered results beyond expectations, marking one of the earliest applications of AI-assisted drilling in the global industry and the first such deployment in Libya.
The two companies also explored opportunities to utilise advanced digital technologies in reservoir management, production optimisation, data analytics and AI-driven decision-making. Participants discussed technical challenges facing production growth and assessed solutions aimed at improving operational sustainability and efficiency.
The meeting further highlighted cooperation in training and knowledge transfer programmes to strengthen the skills of Libyan professionals and support the long-term development of the country’s oil and gas sector.
At the conclusion of the visit, the SLB delegation presented a commemorative shield to Mustafa Hammad in recognition of his role in advancing development projects and strengthening cooperation with international partners. Participants also praised the support provided by National Oil Corporation Chairman Masoud Suleman for initiatives aimed at increasing production and modernising Libya’s energy sector.
