Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army, held a meeting on Monday with Chief of Staff of the Border Guard Forces Major General Salem Al-Jilani to review the latest security developments along Libya’s land borders and assess the operational readiness of the Border Guard Forces.
The meeting, held at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi, focused on the security situation across Libya’s border regions and official land crossings.
According to the General Command’s media office, the discussions also covered the performance of the Border Guard Forces’ General Staff and the progress made in carrying out its assigned security and operational responsibilities.
During the meeting, Saddam Haftar received a briefing on the current security conditions along Libya’s extensive borders and reviewed ongoing efforts to strengthen border control and improve coordination between military units responsible for securing the country’s frontiers.
He praised the Border Guard Forces for their continued efforts to protect Libya’s borders and confront cross-border smuggling networks and organized criminal groups operating in border areas.
He emphasized that securing Libya’s frontiers remains a key component of the country’s broader security strategy and requires constant vigilance and coordination.
Saddam Haftar also stressed the importance of raising the level of operational readiness and maintaining full preparedness across all Border Guard units. He called for intensified efforts to ensure the forces remain capable of carrying out their missions efficiently and responding rapidly to any emerging security threats.
Libya’s vast land borders, which stretch across six neighboring countries, continue to pose significant security challenges due to irregular migration, human trafficking, arms smuggling, fuel smuggling, and other forms of transnational crime.
In response, Libyan authorities have increasingly focused on strengthening border security and improving the capabilities of specialized military and security units.
