Libya’s Audit Bureau and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a project initiation document, marking the official launch of joint initiatives under their partnership agreement to strengthen institutional governance, improve public oversight, and support sustainable development in Libya.
The document was signed during a meeting at the Audit Bureau’s headquarters between Idris Attaf, head of the bureau’s partnership team with UNDP, and UNDP Resident Representative in Libya Sophie Kemkhadze.
The meeting was attended by members of the joint partnership team and representatives from both organizations.
According to a statement issued by the Audit Bureau, the signing marks the transition from planning to implementation by launching practical projects aimed at strengthening public institutions, enhancing transparency, and promoting accountability in line with international standards.
The cooperation framework covers several priority areas, including transparency and anti-corruption initiatives, spatial development, and sustainability and performance audits in the renewable energy and water security sectors. These programs are designed to support Libya’s efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals while improving governance and institutional performance.
The Audit Bureau said the projects will be implemented using internationally recognized methodologies developed by the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). Performance and compliance audits will also follow the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI), ensuring that the programs are aligned with global best practices.
In addition to technical cooperation, the partnership includes capacity-building initiatives, specialized training, and technical assistance aimed at enhancing the Audit Bureau’s institutional capabilities and improving the effectiveness of its oversight functions.
The Audit Bureau emphasized that activating the partnership through concrete projects represents an important step toward translating strategic objectives into measurable results. By combining technical expertise with international standards, the cooperation with UNDP is expected to strengthen Libya’s oversight institutions, promote good governance, and support long-term sustainable development and institutional resilience.
