On Friday, the Minister of Defence of the Government of National Accord (GNA), Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush, authorized the use of force against two warring Battalions. He ordered an immediate ceasefire, and the dissolution of the two groups, without mentioning their names.
Al-Namroush referred the commanders of the two Battalions to the Military Prosecutor General. This is to investigate the violent clashes that broke out between them, on Thursday night, in Tajoura.
The cause of the clashes is believed to be due to the killing of two members of the ‘Lions of Tajoura’ Battalion, by a group from the ‘Daman’ Battalion. This has led to the closure of the main road in Tajoura. The Batalions are believed to have used heavy weapons inside residential neighbourhoods, endangering the lives of civilians, and residents. The fighting has intensified, with the introduction of battle tanks.
