Bangladeshis Stranded in Libya to be Repatriated

On Monday, the Bangladeshi Embassy in Libya announced that 170 nationals, who have been stranded, will be repatriated on Tuesday.

“A chartered flight by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), carrying the Bangladeshi expatriates, will take off from Mitiga International Airport for Dhaka on Tuesday,” the embassy said in a press release.

They were requested to be present at the embassy premises at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Later, a bus will carry them to the airport around 9:30 a.m. All are required to wear masks, and gloves.

It will be the third flight to Bangladesh this month. Two earlier flights in September brought back a total of 323 Bangladeshis. This included some who were rescued from sea, while trying to reach Europe.

The flight was due to depart Libya last week but was suddenly suspended due to “some guidelines by the Libyan government,” according to the embassy.

Bangladesh’s Ambassador in Libya, Sekander Ali, said he had coordinated the flight operation, with the IOM.
