Libyan Parliament Claims GNA has Violated Ceasefire Agreement with Turkish-Qatari Support

The Libyan Parliament accused the High Council of State (HCS) and the Government of National Accord (GNA), of violating the ceasefire agreement through its signing of military cooperation agreements with Turkey and Qatar.

In a statement, the Parliament’s National Defence and Security Committee said, “We deplore the statement issued by the HCS which refuses key tenets of the ceasefire agreement after Qatar and Turkey rejected it. We reject the GNA’s violation of the agreement.”

The statement confirmed the Libyan National Army`s (LNA) keenness to sign the ceasefire agreement but reminded that this support was “in exchange for the expulsion of Turkey, its mercenaries, and the dissolution of militias.”

The committee directed a message to the international community, and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). It called on them to assume responsibility for ensuring that the agreement is held. The statement also directed the LNA to “strike with an iron fist” against extremist militias and remove them by force, should the international community fail to do so.
