Former French President Hints at Removing Turkey from NATO

Former French President, Francois Hollande, stated that the question of Turkey’s presence in NATO should be raised within the alliance. This is because of its “unacceptable behaviour” in Libya, Syria, and the eastern Mediterranean.

In a press statement, Hollande denounced “Turkey’s aggressive policies towards allied countries, and its encouragement of armed conflicts at the gates of Europe. Turkey today has an unacceptable behaviour in Libya and Syria, which causes conflicts that could encourage terrorist organisations to re-emerge,” he said.

He considered the personal attacks launched by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against French President Emmanuel Macron as dangerous. He also stressed that Turkey’s aggressive behaviour constitutes a problem for its membership in NATO.
